Your Adoption FAQs

Our Role in the Process

OUR AGENCY EXISTS to help families successfully complete their adoption plans. We specialize in the provision of adoption home studies, post placement reports and referral services. We work in coordination with your child placing adoption agency and/or attorney. Sometimes, we come by referral from these agencies (because we have worked with them in the past). Often, we come by referral from families that have used us for their home study. Our agency assists families who adopt both domestically and internationally. We are a licensed, non-profit agency in the state of Louisiana.

"What if we still have questions?"
Deciding to adopt can be a long and difficult decision. Once you've reached the point of knowing that you are meant to be adoptive parents, the other questions get much easier. Here are a few common questions that we hear from adoptive parents:

As long as you are certain of your decision to adopt a child, you may start the home study, prior to selecting your child placing agency/attorney. We will ask a few individual questions to get an idea of your direction and will be honest if we think there is reason to wait.

We work with many quality agencies throughout the country and have enjoyed our professional relationship with them. Our past experience and knowledge of adoption agencies often enables us to make a recommendation of an agency or choice of agencies that will suit your needs. Agencies typically specialize in domestic adoptions or adoptions from particular countries. We can help you make an informed decision on which agencies will provide the services you desire.

This is an important question to ask when you "shop around" for a home study provider. Usually, at the point a family decides they would like to adopt, they are more than ready to get started. You deserve to be your home study provider’s priority. We find most of our families are on the "fast track" and motivated to move the process along as quickly as possible. We customarily complete the home study in two months. Please feel free to let us know if you have a special need. We can let you know up front if we can meet your need for an expedited home study.

The home study fee you are quoted by us will cover everything required for the adoption home study, except for the adoptive family's physicals, any additional parent training required by your placing agency, criminal background clearances (Louisiana State Police is $26 for each member of the household over 18 years and FBI is $50 for each member of the household over 18 years) and any incidental charges for copies of birth certificates, marriage licenses, etc. Post Placement Services are quoted separately and vary according to the number of visits/reports required.

TESTIMONIAL

Kimberly / Social Worker

"Josh and I were nervous about our adoption home study.  We recently had watched "What to Expect When You're Expecting" before pursuing adoption.  There is a scene with the stereotypical home study provider that made us both really nervous.  Our home study experience was the exact opposite.  Our provider, Kim, was amazing.  Kim's kindness and professionalism made the experience non-intimidating, and ultimately a treasured time for our family.  We want to thank Kim and Adoption Home Studies for helping bringing home our treasured gift!"
